SGA Update

Greetings to all Members and regular Players of the SGA events!

We hope you are having a terrific 2014 and looking forward to the upcoming golf season.  2013 was a great fun-filled year with lots of camaraderie and we want to make 2014 even better. Your board has been hard at work planning for the upcoming season.

Although we don’t charge  dues, we start the year in great financial shape with over $5,000 in our treasury.  With the  excess funds we plan to subsidize more of our events this year. Future year subsidies are not guaranteed.

Based on member feedback, we have added several new events and moved other events to increase participation and enjoyment:

We are expanding our highly successful season-long Challenge Cup for Wednesday players to include Saturday players.  There are no entrance fees and over $1,600 will be paid out to the 16 players who make it to the playoffs in September.

Other enhancements:

  • Added a Pick a Partner event and evening couples barbecue on Saturday, May 5th.
  • Moved the Couples Championship from August back to June 28th with the Liberty Open in the hope it will be a little cooler.
  • Moved the Sedgefield Championship to Saturday and Sunday Oct. 18 & 19 from Friday and Saturday.
  • We’re looking into a couples trip. Golf for golfers and tennis for the tennis players. More info to follow.
  • Like the club, we will use the lowest handicap index over the previous 12 months to calculate handicaps for our major events (holidays, pick a partner, Couples Championship, Senior Club Championship, Challenge Cup Playoff and Sedgefield Championship). Regular weekly Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday play will remain your current GHIN handicap.
The board meets on the first Monday of every month at 9:30 am in the Grill. All board meetings are open if you would like to attend. This is a volunteer organization and it only gets better with your involvement.  Moreover, all members are encouraged to present ideas or comments, either in person at such meetings, or in writing, to any Board member. All feedback will be thoroughly addressed and dealt with openly and democratically.

The OMEGA interclub matches will begin April 17th. Anyone who wishes to join the team roster please sign up in the Golf Shop. There are usually 1 or 2 matches per month and most matches are on Thursdays at 9:30 am. You don’t have to commit to play every match, just a few works fine. You must be 55 or over to play in OMEGA. The OMEGA schedule and more information can be found on the SGA website.
